Hi all,

I have come across a few places now which want a fire alarm but they have done their own risk assessment.

How to do you go about specifying a category based on their internal fire risk assessment?

I know what should be covered but shy away from mentioning a category due to the lack of professional risk assessment. I am talking about small businesses here such as a very small fish processing factory. I have advised full AFD in the couple of offices, the escape routes and the kitchen with just call points in the wet factory area which is void of anything other than metal tables and dead fish.

Cat L1 seems a little harsh and I tend to lean toward L3 in this case.

I have always worked from "professional" risk assessors specifications but dont know what to do in this case.

Basically just network it to the advanced panel, i was thinking it would just be set up on a pc or something but this firm called "coretech" had re-written the drivers to link this interface to a system called "datalog5" which was in a security hut 2.5 miles away from the barn conversion using fiber optics. This s**t blew my mind and didnt even know it existed. In the hut they had a wall of monitores and real time images of all the buildings on the grounds where they can take full control of all the security/fire systems. They can basically do anything to the panel remotely. Was some of the coolest sheeite i'v seen as an engineer.

Hi guys
I've got a bit of a problem on one of my sites.
I do 4 visits a year to a block of flats with a ZXa with detectors and sounder bases in the flats. First time I went there, all zones, relays and sounders were disabled. After checking, no one could tell me why so I re enabled and left site. 3 months later I return to find sounders and relays disabled and a few zones. At first I panicked and thought I had left it like that from my last visit. Read through my notes in the log book from the last visit and remembered I had this problem before. So this time I've re enabled everything and changed the user code as it was just set to 1234 and written on the panel.
So 3 months on again and guess what? It's all disabled again. Whilst working on the system a rather unhappy resident decided to come and have a pop at me. When I asked her if she had anything to do with the random disablements, straight away she flat out denied it.
I'm pretty convinced its a resident disabling it all as I know they have a high number of false alarms there (install guys put smoke detectors In kitchens and the landlords refuse to pay to change them to heats). Is there anyway to change the engineers code? I know you can't with the ZXe but this is the only ZXa I've got so don't know In depth what you can do with them.

Sorry for the long winded explanation and many thanks!
